The CRAQ Summer School on Cosmology
The Centre for Research in Astrophysics of Quebec (CRAQ) is announcing its annual Summer School, which will be held on June 15-17, 2022 in Montreal, Quebec. We are planning for an “in-person” summer school. However, we will adjust according to the evolution of the epidemiological situation.
This year’s topic will focus on Cosmology. This 3-day school will introduce cutting-edge observational probes of cosmology such as the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), intensity mapping, and gravitational lensing, with hands-on analysis examples including CMB mapmaking, MCMC parameter estimation, and machine learning.
The CRAQ Summer School is principally aimed at graduate students in the fields of physics, astronomy, and astrophysics, although students who have completed an undergraduate program in physics will also be accepted.
Topics & instructors:
- Introduction to cosmology – Adrian Liu (McGill)
- Overview of intensity mapping instrumentation – Cynthia Chiang (McGill)
- CMB overview – Matt Dobbs (McGill)
- Dark matter – Katelin Schutz (McGill)
- CMB data analysis techniques – Jon Sievers (McGill)
- Machine learning – Laurence Perreault Levasseur (U. de Montréal)
- Gravitational lensing – Yashar Hezaveh (U. de Montréal)
A preliminary schedule is available here.
Registration is CLOSE.
There is no registration fee. However, we will not offer traveling funds or cover lodging expenses.
The Centre for Research in Astrophysics of Quebec promotes employment diversity, inclusion and equity. We encourage applications from women, visible and ethnic minorities, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity. We will consider providing travel funds for individuals from these communities if they cannot attend the summer school otherwise. Please contact us using the email address below.

About the CRAQ
The Centre for Research in Astrophysics of Quebec is a partnership between the Université de Montréal, McGill University, the Université Laval, Bishop’s University, the Cégep de Sherbrooke, and the Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne. The CRAQ brings together all researchers working in the field of astronomy and astrophysics of these institutions, as well as other collaborators from the Canadian Space Agency and the private sector (Photon etc., ABB Bomem Inc., Nüvü Caméras). The CRAQ is funded through the program Regroupements stratégiques of the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQ-NT). The CRAQ constitutes a unique grouping of researchers in astrophysics in Québec bent on excellence and whose varying and complementary fields of expertise allows them to be innovative, creative and competitive in several scientific fields, thus offering graduate students a wide variety of subjects in both fundamental and applied fields of research.
