The CRAQ Summer School:
Scientific Machine Learning Applied to Astrophysical Data

The Centre for Research in Astrophysics of Quebec (CRAQ) is announcing its annual Summer School, which will be held on June 26-28, 2024 at Campus MIL of Université de Montréal, Montréal, Quebec.

This year’s topic will focus on scientific machine learning with applications to astrophysical data. The 3-day school will introduce basic concepts in machine learning, data analysis, and probabilities, and introduce advanced topics in deep learning as well as showcase applications to various astrophysical datasets. More specifically, the topics of uncertainty quantifications, anomaly detection, and inference (in high and low dimensions) will be discussed.

The CRAQ Summer School is principally aimed at graduate students in the field of physics, astronomy, and astrophysics, although students who have completed an undergraduate program in physics will also be considered.

Topics & instructors:

  • Laurence Perreault-Levasseur (Université de Montréal, Ciela, and Mila)
  • Yashar Hezaveh (Université de Montréal, Ciela, and Mila)
  • Francois Lanusse (CNRS, Université Paris-Saclay, and Simons Foundation)
  • John Ruan (Bishop’s University)
  • Siamak Ravanbakhsh (McGill University, Mila, and Ciela)

The final schedule is available here.

About the CRAQ

The Centre for Research in Astrophysics of Quebec is a partnership between the Université de Montréal, McGill University, the Université Laval, Bishop’s University, the Cégep de Sherbrooke, and the Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne. The CRAQ brings together all researchers working in the field of astronomy and astrophysics of these institutions, as well as other collaborators from the Canadian Space Agency and the private sector (Photon etc., ABB Bomem Inc., Nüvü Caméras). The CRAQ is funded through the program Regroupements stratégiques of the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQ-NT). The CRAQ constitutes a unique grouping of researchers in astrophysics in Québec bent on excellence and whose varying and complementary fields of expertise allows them to be innovative, creative and competitive in several scientific fields, thus offering graduate students a wide variety of subjects in both fundamental and applied fields of research.
