Three CRAQ researchers landed an important FRQNT Team research project grant to study black holes
An inter-university team, led by Professor Julie Hlvacek-Larrondo, from Université de Montréal, and Professors Daryl Haggard and Tracy Webb, from McGill University, successfully landed an important FRQNT Team research project grant to study black holes. The “Montréal Black Hole Collaboration” (MBH CoLAB) will use state-of-the-art observational data to pinpoint the physical processes that drive the growth of supermassive black holes. The team will study massive galaxies, caught in the crucial phase of feeding their central supermassive black holes, by mining huge, high-quality data archives, and acquiring targeted new observations from flagship space missions like the Hubble, Chandra, and Spitzer Space Observatories, and from world class facilities on the ground. This successful FRQNT program led by CRAQ researchers recognizes Montréal as a unique node of supermassive black hole research in Quebec.
The CRAQ congratulates our three colleagues.
About the FRQNT Team research project grant program:
The purpose of the program is to 1) foster the emergence of new research niches in all scientific fields covered by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT); 2) enhance the ability of Quebec researchers to compete in federal competitions by carrying out innovative projects; 3) promote the pooling of researchers with the complementary expertise needed to carry out a research project; 4) provide a conducive environment to high-calibre student training and supervision.
