Abstract

The Thermal Evolution of CV White Dwarfs Through Thousands of Nova Explosions

Edward Sion (Villanova University)

We present the results of multi-cycle evolutionary sequences of accreting white dwarfs over timescales long enough for hundreds to thousands of nova explosions to occur, with special attention to the evolution of a key observable, the effective temperature of the white dwarf. The sequences cover a wide range of parameter space in the white dwarf mass, the accretion rate, $\dot{M}$ and the white dwarf core temperature. Comparison is carried out with the observed properties of CV white dwarfs above and below the CV period gap.
