Abstract

White Dwarf Research with Gaia

Stefan Jordan (ARI, ZAH, University of Heidelberg, Germany)

The Gaia satellite has been launched on December 19, 2013. Its high-precision astrometric and photometric measurements, in particular the determination of parallaxes, will have have substantial influence on white dwarf research. The satellite has been tested intensively during the commissioning phase which ends in June 2014. This talk will discuss the status of the Gaia mission and provides an estimate for the time scales of the data releases and the expected precision of the Gaia results.
