HIRAX is a planned radio array that will begin construction in the South African Karoo desert in late 2019. It will operate between 400 to 800 MHz using 6m diameter dishes. The main science goals include mapping the evolution of dark energy between redshift 2.5 and 0.8, searching for new pulsars, searching for and localizing fast radio bursts (FRBs), and finding new hydrogen absorbers. With the addition of outriggers in neighboring southern African countries, HIRAX should be able to localize non-repeating FRBs with a positional accuracy of ~30 mas. We outline the science goals and current status of HIRAX.
