Finding Relativistic Stellar Explosions as Fast Optical Transients
Anna Ho

Optical transient surveys, enabled by their large grasp, can now probe the phase space of fast and rare transients. In my talk, I will show that systematic rapid discovery, with targeted multiwavelength follow-up, has enabled us to answer decades-old questions in the field of gamma-ray bursts and discover unexpected types of cosmic explosions that are prime targets for millimeter-band observatories such as ALMA. Significant progress on these questions will be enabled by upcoming high-cadence surveys in other bands, particularly X-ray, UV, and submillimeter.
