Sensitivity Threshold estimation for CHIME/FRB system

Naman Jain ( Université McGill )

Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are radio pulses of micro to milli-second durations primarily originating at cosmological distances. The Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment/Fast Radio Bursts (CHIME/FRB) is a unique experiment in its capabilities to detect FRBs owing to its broad frequency range, large instantaneous field of view , and daily scanning of full Northern sky. The sensitivity of the telescope to an event is essential information to do population modelling, rate analysis, and multi-wavelength constraints. In this talk, I will describe how we characterize exposure and sensitivity of the telescope to the position of the source in the sky for the duration of its transit in the telescope. I will first give an overview of CHIME beam model and introduce how we define the exposure for an event. Next, I will describe our algorithm for calculating the sensitivity, and compare how the precision in localization affects the metric.
