The PALFA Survey and a Search for Slow Pulsars

Emilie Parent ( Université McGill )

I will be discussing the PALFA pulsar survey, the largest survey of the galactic plane to date, conducted at Arecibo Telescope and a new addition to the processing routines applied to the observations to help discover slowly rotating pulsars. Those are more difficult to detect because of ruinous RFI (man-made interference), particularly dammaging when searching for periodic signals with periods larger than 100ms. I will discuss how this new implementation operates and why discovering new long-period pulsars is important and exciting.
