What will the poster session be like?

General

What is the cost of this conference?

-The 35$ registration fee covers your hotel room, food for the weekend, and your participation in the conference. Travel expenses are left to the attendee's discretion.

If I don't live in Quebec City, will I be provided with lodging and if so, where will I stay?

-The participants will by accomodated at Laval Univeristy's resisdence on the campus. It will be quadruple occupancy rooms, and participants from the same university will be placed together.

How can I get there?

-You can refer to the 'How to get there' tab.

What if I have special requests (lodging, food allergies and/or restrictions, etc.)

-There is a section on the registration form in which you can state if you require special accommodations. Please do not hesitate to contact us, we will do our best to accommodate you.

When will I find out if I am accepted?

-An email will be sent to you during the week of December 5th 2014.

Will travel expenses be reimbursed/paid for?

-Travel expenses will not be paid for; it will be the responsibility of the attendee to cover these expenses. Funding may, however, be available at your home university or institution.

Where will the conference take place?

The conference will take place in Laval's La Laurentienne building.


Research Presentation

Do I have to present research in order to attend CCUWiP?

-No, you are welcome to attend CCUWiP even if you have never done physics research or if you do not want to present your research work.

Why should I present my research at CCUWiP?

-If you decide to present your research at CCUWiP, you will find that it is an opportunity to practice talking to the public about your scientific work in a supportive, low-stress environment.

What kinds of things can I present?

-You can present any physics-related research that you have been involved in. This could be research you did with a professor at your university, the results of a summer research program, a project you completed for one of your classes, or a senior thesis/capstone project.

Why do I have to submit a title and abstract?

-This is standard practice for scientific conferences. In order to be given a spot to present a poster session at a conference, you have to tell the conference organizers about the research you will be presenting. They will make sure it fits with the theme of the conference, and may reject some abstracts.

Am I guaranteed to be able to give a talk/poster?

-No, it will depend on the available space, but this should not deter you from applying.

When will I find whether I get to present my research?

-You will find this out at the same time that you find out if your application to the conference has been accepted, which will be by December 13th, 2013 at the latest.

What if I want to change my title or abstract later on?

-We will confirm with you before printing the conference booklets, so if you want to correct a typo or make minor changes, you can do so at that time. If you want to make major changes, please send us your new title and abstract to our email.

When I registered, I said I didn't want to present my research. Now I've changed my mind. Is it too late?

-As long as registration is still open, simply send us your title and abstract via our email. If registration is closed, we may not be able to accommodate you.

When I registered, I said I wanted to present my research. Now I've changed my mind. What should I do?

-Contact us and let us know as soon as possible.

What will the poster session be like?

-All the posters will be set up in a large room. During the one hour poster session, conference participants will circulate around the room looking at the posters. If you are presenting a poster, you should spend at least half the session standing by your poster and elaborating on your research.
