Journeying to the Centre of the Sun
Sarbani Basu

It may sound paradoxical, but we know what the centre of the Sun is like much better than we know what the centre of the Earth is like. We know the the density and sound speed at the heart of the Sun to an unprecedented accuracy. This is a result of helioseismology, the study of sun-quakes. In this talk I shall give a brief overview of helioseismology and talk about what we know about the Sun as a direct result of this technique. I shall also talk about how the Sun changes over time scales that affect us.
