Julie Hlavacek-Larrondo : FRQ’s Etoile Montante
The Centre for Research in astrophysics of Quebec (CRAQ) congratulates Julie Hlavacek-Larrondo, a member of the CRAQ, who has been awarded the first Etoile Montante prize by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT). Associate Professor of Physics at the Université de Montréal and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Observational astrophysics of black holes, Julie Hlavacek-Larrondo is an internationally recognized expert in the study of supermassive black holes. She has been honoured with numerous awards, distinctions, fellowships and grants, recognizing her outstanding leadership, the originality of her research and the impact of her initiatives. In addition to her scientific achievements, Julie Hlavacek-Larrondo stands out for her commitment to diversity in scientific fields. She is co-founder of Parité sciences, a bold initiative to achieve gender parity in science and engineering science and engineering across the province.
About the Centre for Research in Astrophysics of Quebec
The Centre for Research in Astrophysics of Quebec (CRAQ) brings together all the astrophysicists in Quebec. Nearly 150 people, including some fifty researchers and their students from Université de Montréal, McGill University, Université Laval, Bishop’s University, Cégep de Sherbrooke, Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne and a number of other collaborating institutions are part of the cluster. The CRAQ is under the direction of David Lafrenière of the Université de Montréal. The CRAQ is one of the strategic clusters funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature and Technologies (FRQNT).
