Description of the research project:
Simon Thibault is head of the Laboratoire de Recherche en Ingénierie Optique (LRIO) at Université Laval – the only Canadian research laboratory to offer graduate training in optical design. Within this laboratory he conducts several research projects on theoretical and experimental concepts for the development of solutions in different fields of applications of modern optics including instrumentation for astronomy and space exploration, medical applications, security and surveillance, remote sensing, digital vision, industrial inspection, military systems and lighting. He holds a Research Chair in Optical Design and, as such, his research activities address modern issues in design and optical engineering. He and his team rely on the implementation of original optical design techniques, new imaging concepts, innovative test assemblies and new approaches to assembly.
