Space Climate 7 Meeting Abstract

Effects of the solar hemispheric asymmetry on the interplanetary and geomagnetic field

Judit Muraközy (HAS RCAES Konkoly Obs., DHO)

The connection between the solar activity and the variation of the IMF and geomagnetic field is a well-known, while their relationship with the scale of the solar hemispheric asymmetry is a less-known phenomenon. To measure the hemispheric asymmetry, the absolute value of N-S differences of the monthly number of sunspot groups has been used. As a result of this study similarity can be pointed out in the trend of the variations of the IMF B and the solar hemispheric asymmetry. The positive trend is about 80 % of the investigated timespan. The positive trend is less strong but can be pointed out on the variations of the solar hemispheric asymmetry and the Dst, Ap and aa geomagnetic indices.
