Abstract

Rotation and magnetic fields of massive stars

Gregg Wade (RMC)

The subjects of this talk are two fundamental characteristics of hot, massive stars: rotation and magnetism. Rotation is, more or less, an important characteristic of all hot stars. Magnetism, on the other hand, seems to be important only for a small fraction of them. Then again, we're pretty sure we know why all stars rotate, but we haven't much of a clue why just a few seem to be magnetic. This talk will review our basic understanding of rotation and magnetism of OB stars, and will conclude (naturally!) with some remarks about the rotational properties of the magnetic stars.
