Abstract

The Galactic O-Star Spectroscopic Survey (GOSSS) and its relationship to similar surveys

Jesús Maíz Apellániz (IAA-CSIC)

The GOSSS team (8 people)

The last five years have produced several intermediate-to-high spectral resolution ($R$ from 2500 to 46\,000) large (hundred to thousands) surveys of O stars: GOSSS, OWN, IACOB, VFTS, NoMaDS\ldots I will review their characteristics and concentrate on GOSSS, which currently has the largest number of observed targets. I will present some of its first scientific results, such as the definition of the new Ofc class and the discovery of two Of?p stars, and discuss its scientific applications. Two tools related to the O-star surveys will be demoed: the new version of the online Galactic O-Star Catalog and Marxist Ghost Buster, the new spectral classification tool.
