Abstract

Is massive star formation a scaled-up version of low-mass starformation?

Hans Zinnecker (German SOFIA Inst., Univ. Stuttgart & NASA-Ames)

We present arguments that high-mass star formation is not simply a scaled-up version of low-mass star formation. The various models of massive star formation (cf. Zinnecker and Yorke 2007, ARAA 45) are compared, including updated simulations and the latest observations. The recent SOFIA mid-IR imaging data (11-37 mu) of the Orion BN/KL region obtained with the FORCAST camera will be shown and analysed.
