Abstract

Solar System Science - Invited Review

Dave Jewitt (UCLA)

The solar system is the only planetary system we can study in detail, offering many opportunities for science and raising many important questions. Unlike most other branches of astronomy, solar system science benefits both from in-situ studies using spacecraft and from remote studies using telescopes. The two approaches are highly complementary and contribute roughly equally to our knowledge. In this talk, I will provide a broad overview of recent results obtained by planetary astronomers, focusing on new areas relevant to JWST and on big-picture issues regarding solar system formation and evolution.
