Abstract

Effects of Varying White Dwarf Mass in Naturally Tilted CV Disks

Michele M. Montgomery (University of Central Florida (UCF))

Accreting white dwarfs in Cataclysmic Variables may increase in mass over time, as the average mass of a white dwarf in this close binary is higher than the average mass of a white dwarf in isolation. As such, we explore the effects of varying white dwarf mass in CVs that exhibit signals of retrograde precession and/or negative superhump frequencies. We compare white dwarf masses and frequencies obtained from these 3D HD smoothed particle hydrodynamic simulations of disks that naturally tilt with those from analytical models and those from observations.
